They say life is an adventure, but I dare say that it’s not every adventure that one embraces willingly. National Youth Service was one of such. It was compulsory. I had no choice in the matter. As a Nigerian graduate I had to serve my country…had to. Well, I wanted to have a great time, so I let go of my reservations and let the enthusiasm of others rub off on me. I read posts about preparing for NYSC and “yaaayy” when I got my call up letter I was excited. So, I packed my bags and made my way to Edo State. From that time till now, every day has been experience. Most are worth sharing, others I hope to never repeat and some simply unbelievable. Asides the things I saw daily, I’ve heard stories that made me laugh, choke or hang my mouth open.
I’m finally counting down to the end the year with optimism about what’s coming next. I’ve learnt and grown this past year, I handled some things superbly while others not quite well. As I prepare to step off this train, I think it is important to review the year; what worked and what didn’t, and chronicle the lessons I’ve learnt so far. I invite you to come on this journey with me, and maybe someday when I look back, this collection will serve as a progress marker. I’ll start each article with snippets of my experience and end with lessons that I hope you would find useful. Happy Reading!
Cheers.
